How can I get tested for COVID-19?

I am experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and am currently enrolled at Cal Poly.

Please call Campus Health & Wellbeing at (805) 756-1211 to schedule a medical evaluation,
if you have one of the following symptoms:

  • Fever or chills or Cough or Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

I have been exposed to somebody with COVID-19 and am currently enrolled at Cal Poly.

Please call Campus Health & Wellbeing at (805) 756-1211 to schedule a medical evaluation If you have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 at a distance of less than 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer within the last 14 days.

I need to get tested so I can access campus (i.e. in-person class, on-campus job, want to access on-campus services)

Please click HERE to schedule a COVID-19 test. This option is only indicated if you do NOT have any COVID-19 symptoms or have NOT been exposed to a person with COVID-19.

I belong to a specific group that is required to get tested regularly.

Surveillance testing takes place to sample groups of the student community on a routine basis, including but not limited to residential students and those living off-campus enrolled in face-to-face classes. A special focus will be placed on off-campus students engaging in structured organizations like fraternities and sororities, student-athletes, and band.

A) Band, Greek Life, and/or Student Athlete: You will receive a scheduling link from your group leader that is specific for your group.

B) I missed my testing appointment with the third-party company or felt uncomfortable providing personal information: click HERE to schedule a COVID-19 test. This option is only indicated if you do NOT have any COVID-19 symptoms or have NOT been exposed to a person with COVID-19.

I would like to get tested or curious about my COVID-19 status.

Go to readyslo.org for testing opportunities off-campus. Visit one of the several testing locations available within the county. The closest public testing site to Cal Poly is SLO Vets Hall.

  • Please note - county testing locations are by appointment only. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you have insurance, please have your insurance card available when you register at the county testing sites. You will not be charged a co-pay, but your insurance will be charged. If you don't have insurance, you won't be charged at the public testing locations in San Luis Obispo County.

If timing is not a concern, there are several private companies that have been approved to provide ‘self-testing kits’ under Emergency Use Authorizations from the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), including Pixel by LabCorp; Vitagene; Picture by Fulgent Genetics; and LetsGetChecked. Insurance can be billed for these tests during the online ordering process. Please note that a minimum of 5-6 days should be allowed to cover the time needed to receive the kit in the mail and then to receive results.

Campus Health & Wellbeing provides testing for possible exposure, illness due to COVID-19, potential on-campus visits or ongoing required surveillance. Supply inventory is limited; the availability of on-campus testing fluctuates. Please remember that a COVID-19 test will reflect a moment in time, and does not predict if you will develop illness in the future.

I am not enrolled in the current quarter at Cal Poly.
