Coronavirus
Status Updates (as of 03/24/2020)
- On March 24, Cal Poly was notified that an out-of-area student tested positive for COVID-19. For additional information, please see Campus Updates.
- Confirmed cases in San Luis Obispo County: 42. The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department has reported 42 confirmed cases in the county. See the San Luis Obispo County Emergency Information website for more information.
- The San Luis Obispo County Department of Public Health announced a shelter-in-home (place) order, effective at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 19. This order does not change the status of employees, as all non-essential employees have been asked to remain off campus and telecommute, if possible.
Students who feel safer at the university, who have no other housing options and/or those who may have limited access to technology and the internet, can remain on campus. Residence halls and campus dining will remain operational with social distancing. Students may also choose to leave campus to travel to their permanent home residences, but are asked not to return until further notice to help minimize potential spread of the virus.
Students who plan to stay locally are strongly encouraged to complete this short survey so that the university can prepare to support you. - Spring Break has been extended by one week. Spring term classes will begin on April 6. All spring quarter classes will be held virtually for the entirety of the quarter. Faculty will communicate the logistics for these courses prior to the start of the term.
- Employees: All non-essential employees are asked to telecommute and not come to campus.
- Travel restrictions: Travel abroad is currently prohibited through 5/31/2020. Cal Poly students studying abroad are required to return to the U.S. as soon as immediately possible. Cal Poly International Center is available to support all affected.
- Event/programs: Cancellation or postponement for all events with attendance or participation of 50 or more.
- In-person spring commencement has been postponed and we will look to an alternate form of recognizing our graduates.
- Cal Poly Athletics: All games and practices are suspended until further notice.
