Student testing for COVID-19

I am experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and am currently enrolled at Cal Poly.

Please call Campus Health & Wellbeing at (805) 756-1211 to schedule a medical evaluation, if you have one of the following symptoms:

  • Fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

I have been exposed to somebody with COVID-19.

Students without symptoms (asymptomatic) must test between days 3 - 5 and again around day 10 after exposure. Visit the Student Testing webpage for on-campus testing information.

Symptomatic students may test at Campus Health and Wellbeing or their health care provider. Symptomatic employees must test with their local health care provider.

Please go this link for the SLO Public Health Quarantine Instructions and also review the Student Quarantine and Isolation Guide.

If you would like to test in the community, please visit one of the several  testing locations available within the county.  Having a negative test does not shorten your quarantine period.

If you have insurance, please have your insurance card available when you register at the county testing sites. You will not be charged a co-pay, but your insurance will be charged. If you don't have insurance, you won't be charged at the public testing locations in San Luis Obispo County.

If timing is not a concern, there are several private companies that have been approved to provide ‘self-testing kits’ under Emergency Use Authorizations from the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), including  Pixel by LabCorp; VitagenePicture by Fulgent Genetics; and LetsGetChecked. Insurance can be billed for these tests during the online ordering process. Please note that a minimum of 5-6 days should be allowed to cover the time needed to receive the kit in the mail and then to receive results

I need to get tested so I can access campus (i.e. in-person class, on-campus job, want to access on-campus services)

Saliva-based COVID surveillance testing has replaced the nasal swab testing for students and offer faster, more convenient testing. The saliva-based test is free and no insurance is required.

Visit the Student Testing page for more information and to make appointments for saliva-based testing.

If you have symptoms, please call at 805-756-1211 for an evaluation and testing appointment instead.
