Who We Are

Our mission

Peers Understanding, Listening, Supporting, Educating (PULSE) is a collaborative effort among student-led teams that each serve an active role in seeking to achieve a balanced, thriving campus at Cal Poly. We strive to promote healthy lifestyle management through an intersectional lens by empowering students with knowledge, skills, and resources to achieve holistic well-being for themselves and their community. Our primary goal is to develop programming that is fun, safe, supportive, interactive, and educational that reaches the entire campus community regardless of background or identity.

Buck the Stigma of Mental Health

Freaky Fall

Freaky Fall: Halloween is a time when many choose to party. The ACOD team wants to make sure those who choose to party do so safely. Freaky Fall is a week long push week to educate students about the effects of substance use and misuse so they are prepared to stay safe during Halloween. Varying events and social media content help support this goal each year.

Healthy Resolutions

New Year, No Fear: NYNF is during the second week of winter quarter. The programming that the HEAT team puts out around this time aims to support students’ health and wellbeing as they navigate the New Year, as well as building sustainable, healthy habits that folks can take with them into the new school year.

High-Risk Times, Harm-Reduction Solutions

The first 6 weeks of college is a high-risk time for drug and alcohol use. The ACOD team works to promote student safety during this high-risk time using a harm reduction approach with various booths, outreach events, and social media content. December Drunk Driving Awareness: This past December we held an activity to address the high rates of drunk driving seen among the 18-25-year-old age group. St. Patrick's Day: Another high-risk partying time that the ACOD team addresses through education and outreach events in an attempt to make safety fun!

Let's Talk Sex

Let's Talk Sex - EROS hosts workshops covering a vast array of sexual health topics, such as STIs and sex education. These workshops occur quarterly and are open to all Cal Poly students.

Love Carefully for Valentine's Day

Love Carefully - PULSE's annual Winter quarter event that takes place around Valentine's Day. A variety of topics are covered including healthy relationships, safe sex practices, and intersections between sexual health and other health topics.

Join Us

Students who are passionate about the well-being of their campus community are welcomed to join PULSE. Professional Health Education staff train volunteers as Peer Health Educators that promote healthy behaviors and wellness among all members of the Cal Poly community. This hands-on experience provides an opportunity to explore sectors of Public Health, gain knowledge on current behavioral health trends, enhance interpersonal and leadership skills, develop competencies for creating, implementing, and evaluating programs, and learn effective marketing strategies. PULSE programs consist of wellness workshops, presentations, coaching sessions, and educational outreach to the Cal Poly campus.

Complete our interest list to be informed when the next enrollment period in Fall 2022 becomes live.

All undergraduate Cal Poly students are welcome to apply. Applicants must commit to at least a quarter and have taken the CPE certification (training provided). Additional training and support may be required via Canvas. A minimum GPA of 2.50 is required throughout your tenure with PULSE.
